Start with easier pets – Many people don’t want to start with the responsibility of a dog or cat. Many mutts you can get from the pound or animal shelter make terrific pets. I strongly encourage people to adopt pound and shelter animals. Cats for quiet kids – I find that cats are great pets for very introverted kids.

Interesting that many of the grants this place gets specifically say they can't experiment on any domesticated animals (cats and dogs I guess.). There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter. Weird, weird, weird.
