Corey had a host of birds to choose from as his Best Bird of the Weekend as he spent Friday morning birding at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Orange County, California. He didn’t see them do a courtship dance but their elegance was more than enough to leave him happy about the experience.

I also spent a week in northwestern Costa Rica on a family vacation, a long weekend in Barbados, a week in Georgia, and two week-plus-long trips to visit relatives in southern California. For fifteen years, ever since I started visiting California as a birder, I’ve been hoping to see a Mountain Plover.

Ding Darling NWR, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Big Cypress National Preserve, Loxahatchee NWR, and Everglades National Park. Another is California Condor in the Grand Canyon.). Geography is destiny.

The cows are walking around green fields, similar to those in the criminally misleading California cows commercials. But now I think about all of that being done to my daughter and I must say the disgust I experience at the notion that a family farm is somehow a wholesome place is a bit overwhelming.
