In fact, a herd of Cape Buffalo spotted us on the shore here and began gradually moving closer. Our guide wisely extracted us after noticing this – the temperamental buffalo are known for edging closer and closer until suddenly we would be the ones within their personal space and therefore deserving of an angry charge.

Seven hours in total, reaching halfway up the second highest peak on Trinidad, El Tucuche. Trinidad Lancehead , or Fer-de-lance. This small tanager is widely distributed across Trinidad albeit much less common than the very similar White-lined Tanager. What actually unfolded was quite different from what I had expected, however.

Where else but in Wyoming will you find Peacocks and a Buffalo together? We are on our way to Colorado, and the famous Trinidad Lake area. The near by trees had several Ruby-crowned kinglets. Down near the original cook shack was a bush that held one Townsend’s Warbler. OK, I know it is cheesy, but the picture just caught my eye!

Horned Guan by Adam Riley Mike was tempted to go with a guan as well, since he had the good fortune to encounter the Trinidad Piping Guan in the only country it can be found. Of course, no ordinary chicken would do, but the Red Junglefowl is the primordial progenitor of poultry, the wild source of cutlets, nuggets, and Buffalo wings.
