In 2008, with my family decided to build the Limneo Lodge , a small accommodation with only 9 rooms. With more than 312 so far recorded bird species, Lake Kerkini National Park offers great birding year-round. Other important breeding species include Black and White Stork , Lesser Spotted , White-tailed , and Booted Eagle.

A Wood Stork lands in a tree, while one Neotropical River Otter swims across and climbs a floating log. Now we were in Finca Tres Equis, a family cocoa farm (if I understood well, it translates as Triple X Farm) and a private reserve of over 300 hectares, of which more than 70 percent is a forest, representing part of a Jaguar corridor.

Spotting 57 species of birds in the couple of hours we put in to seeking out birds was never so ho-hum in my life. Though I will grudgingly admit that a few of the birds we saw were alright, like the Northern Gannets in the bay and the Horned Grebes in breeding plumage. So-so looks at a brown swallow. How exciting. Of course it did.

The Refuge is now home to nearly 200 species of birds, over 50 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles and amphibians, and a wide variety of insects, fish and plants. The refuge offers opportunities for hiking and biking trails, canoeing and kayaking on Swan Lake, bank fishing, and family friendly programs and events.”

mi at its widest point, consisting of seasonally inundated riparian forests, industrial poplar plantations, river arms and ponds with 60 mammal ( Eurasian Otter , Roe Deer , Wildcat , Golden Jackal , etc.) and 180 bird species ( Ferruginous Duck , Black Woodpecker ; Icterine , Eastern Olivaceous and Barred Warblers ) recorded so far.
