NYT Equine Thought Experiment

Animal Person

The New York Times presents us, this morning, with "Equine Alternative" regarding the recent discovery that horses decided to allow themselves be domesticated by humans for our mutual benefit, earlier than we had thought (3500 BC, and we preciously thought it was more like 2500 BC). How I Become a Birder

10,000 Birds

I think I was 19 when I made my first bucket list of things I’d like to do, from horse-back riding to sailing, rafting, caving, climbing… all sort of things Willie Garvin was good at (minus the knife throwing). Somewhere at the very back of the list was birdwatching. Why at the back? What more would I ask from eBird?

New Jersey mystery sparrow. In it we can see things we recognize in other, more common, birds.

Sowing the Seeds of Veganism

Animal Person

Segue into horse racing. Parlay greyhounds aren't for entertainment to they're not for experimenting on to neither are mice (again, takes a minute, but I've done it). Of course, there's the pure breed discussion as well as the breeding of dogs, in general, discussion (most frequent after the racing discussion for me).

Being a Tolai Hare’s life Human

10,000 Birds

Such has frequently been the case in my survey area deep within Kazakhstans barren Mangghystau province, and the most memorable reverse-lifer experience has been with a Tolai Hare just recently. It ain’t a camel and it ain’t a horse. The Tolai Hare to me is not a hare, it is more of a miracle. what is this thing?
