Birding the Ndumo area, South Africa

Poor researchers Nicola Coumi and Rob Slotow failed to find anything particularly interesting about vigilance in Bronze Mannikin groups. Mind you – it is indeed a description, not a video, as the research was done in 1952. ” I wish I had this kind of optimism. They probably did not even have Twitter then.

Birding Nonggang, Guangxi, China – part 2

While serpent means large snake, the Crested Serpent-eagle also eats frogs, as this video shows. The breeding ecology of the Yellow-bellied Warbler was actually studied exactly here at Nonggang in 2019 by 3 Chinese researchers. This included recording a total of 77,760 minutes of video. Glad I did not have to watch these.

Polygynandry and avian swingers

In the case of Acorn Woodpeckers, they are cooperative breeders (as with many other polygynandrous species), which seems to predispose species to polygynandry. Wicked, right?
