While Uganda does not have the international reputation of its neighbors Kenya and Tanzania, the experience there is no less extraordinary – and in many ways, particularly for the birder, it’s even more so. It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around this trip, my first on a brand new continent.

This resource participation, as the ornithologists call it, allows for relatively peaceful coexistence as long as both brands of confectionary are available. For example, while a Spotted Forktail readily ate from the Snickers bar I handed it, the Little Forktail loudly requested a Mars bar (which unfortunately I did not have with me).
