In 2008, with my family decided to build the Limneo Lodge , a small accommodation with only 9 rooms. With more than 312 so far recorded bird species, Lake Kerkini National Park offers great birding year-round. Other important breeding species include Black and White Stork , Lesser Spotted , White-tailed , and Booted Eagle.

August is possibly the best month there, because you gradually observe the rise and fall of numbers of various migrating species, which use it as a stopover site to fatten up ahead of the long hauls further south. On several occasions, early in the morning a Brown Hare would greet me, and once a Wild Boar waved me goodbye. Photo: VICE.

By the time we reached the Upper Thomson Road we had a spent three hours sauntering through the park and had a list of over forty bird species. We had not expected to see too many bird species on this short walk, but sometimes these short walks can have a surprise or two. Singapore is a great place to enjoy the woodpecker family.

It’s the boar hunting season. The soil is disturbed by foraging boars (and there is not a single shot from those hunters). By the cliffs we find several Eurasian Crag-Martins and a consolation species – a family of Golden Eagles in the air! One Grey-headed Woodpecker flies across the road – a promising start.
