Cooper’s Hawk Eating a Road-Killed Canada Goose

On the same day that I journeyed out to eastern Long Island to enjoy birding Shinnecock Inlet in the fog I also explored the fields of Riverhead, where large flocks of geese congregate and where a Yellow-headed Blackbird had been reported recently amid a large flock of icterids at a Buffalo farm.

The Kerkini Lake, Greece: Dipped One, Got One

The beech forests were dense, landscapes stunning, only that wind… Birds were hiding from it, too, with mostly t**s ( Coal , Long-tailed and Great ), a few thrushes ( Mistle , Song and Eurasian Blackbird ) and numerous Common Chaffinches showing. A Great Day’s Birding in Suffolk County, New York

Then we took a half-hour drive further east to Further Lane, where Greater White-fronted Geese appear year after year and we were not disappointed. all three of the Greater White-fronted Geese we spotted with a bunch of Canada Geese. It really has been a great winter to see both species in New York.

Little Big Year Week 33: Yellowstone

The Alkali Lakes was a different matter, with a good bunch of birds, including Ring-bill Gulls, Mallards, Blue-wing Teal, green-wing Teal, Killdeer, Baird’s Sandpipers, red-wing Blackbirds, Osprey, Trumpeter Swans and Canada Geese. Where else but in Wyoming will you find Peacocks and a Buffalo together?
