The Point-tailed Palmcreeper is a strange bird in all senses. Observing it negotiate swaying and swishing palm fronds was akin to seeing a seal swim through a kelp forest. It was almost as if the bird was made for the tree. The post Birding Around the Farm first appeared on 10,000 Birds.

Aesthetic charm is probably a big part of making a bird interesting to outsiders, and unfortunately most gulls fall fairly short in both form and voice. Small and white and rounded and basicly cute, could it not be the Turtle Dove to the rest of the Laridae ‘s Rock Pigeons ? Not all, though. Consider the Ivory Gull. Sometimes.

Oil begins to wash up on the beaches throughout May and June of 2010 May 6, 2010 Oil washes ashore on the Chandeleur Islands off the Louisiana coast, an important nesting and breeding area for many bird species. Officials reported 48 marine mammals, mostly dolphins, and 87 dead sea turtles during the first two months alone.

Birds of California , the new volume in the ABA series, arrived the day I returned. Every bird book seems to be about the west coast this month!) With the boat speed what it was, and being the only birder on board, to stop watching meant I might miss an interesting bird. That’s 22 Marine Mammal species and 43 Seabirds.

Most people have heard of Lake Eyre , which is well-known for the variety of bird life on years that it floods. It appeared that Lake Bindegolly National Park could also offer us the same birding opportunities if there was water present. We carried ample water and spent 4 hours walking and birding. Turtle shell.
