Given how hot and sometimes humid it is in Shanghai in July, it is a wonder there are any birds here in this month, particularly taking into account that most bird nests are not air-conditioned. One of the reasons stated is “the benefits of the people” (not the birds). Still, a few spend the summer here.

This is not protecting hunters’ rights; this is taking away a law that protects the health of both hunters and wildlife. The Center for Biological Diversity wants to stop the NRA’s lead-poisoning legislation.

Other than a sweeping public lands package in 2019 , there has been little or no progress on the environment or wildlife protection. A “ Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp ,” costs $25 and income from sales goes into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund (“MBCF”). Indeed, there has been considerable cause for alarm.

In 2007 I was working in a university building that was just begging for bird feeders. This was where I set up my bird feeders, just one at first, then expanding as everyone expressed delight in seeing the Carolina Chickadees, Dark-eyed Juncos, and Downy Woodpeckers. There were no dead birds for weeks. I hoped it was an anomaly.
