Birding Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

10,000 Birds

As the rice paddies near Kota Kinabalu described in an earlier post , Tanjung Aru beach is not really a major birding spot in its own right. However, it is only a short taxi ride away from the airport where most travelers will arrive at – better to see birds instead of just eating fast food while waiting for a connecting flight.

Birding Singapore

10,000 Birds

The only bird-related activity I can think of is looking at bird photos I took in Singapore in 2015, and adding some irrelevant comments to them. Presumably, birds living in Singapore do not understand German. Writing this post, I have been in lockdown in my Shanghai compound for 60 days. “Odd, me?”

Birding and Safari-ing South Africa with the ABA

10,000 Birds

And Flamingos and Hornbills and a Secretarybird and birds with names like Hamerkop and Thick-knee and Eremomela (which I know is a scientific term, but which, when pronounced correctly, reminds me of a Yiddish term of endearment my grandmother used). And so, I went on the American Birding Association Safari to South Africa.

Camooweal, Queensland

10,000 Birds

When we had our camping/birding trip earlier this year we entered Queensland from the Northern Territory at the border near the small outback town of Camooweal. We chose to camp at the far end of Lake Canellan to be as far away from others as possible and to enjoy the bird-life in the area. Australian Wood Duck. Black-winged Stilt.

A Christmas Day list

10,000 Birds

Whenever possible we have used our Christmas Day to see how many bird species we can get in our local area and this year was no different. It is a great way to spend the day together, especially if work commitments have prevented birding trips together for a few weeks. Target set! We rarely see them so close to town.

Duncan’s 2014 List

10,000 Birds

2013 was a strange year for me, staring in the UK, ending in Borneo and spending large tracks of the year not really seeing many birds in New Zealand. Birds simply don’t get much better than that, but then again locatins to start and end a year rarely get much better than the famous Danum Valley in Borneo. The List: Birds.
