About the size of a hare, it is more clumsily jumping, than running… and that tail… It was the European Otter ! Once I observed a man walking his two small dogs here, passing by a perched White-tailed Eagle but looking down at grass and not noticing the largest raptor in Europe at all. Enjoying the Orange Peril

I would be fascinating to know how many species of birds it was pointed at during its time with me, but it must have been well over 1,000. I’ve never quite understood why so many people wrap their scopes up in little jackets, (but nor do I understand why it’s so popular to dress dogs up in coats, too, as they are already wrapped in fur.

The Joys of Urban Birding in SE Europe

Oh, the joys of urban birding… Add half a dozen Ferruginous Ducks (cover photo), two Whiskered and 40 Black Terns to the previous picture, plus an eagle, an immature White-tailed Eagle. Feral Cats Are An Invasive Species in North America (and elsewhere)

I find it astonishing that people argue of whether feral cats are bad for birds in North America. You can make a similar map for the small carnivores, the Mustelids, such as minks, ermines, otters, etc. Dogs are similarly dispersed across size ranges, with Foxes, Coyotes, and Wolves taking prey across different parts of the size range.
