Birding across the north of Australia in July

In Australia it is winter in July, but the weather is as perfect as you could hope for in the north of the country with daytime temperatures around 30c/86f and the night-time temperatures being around 20c/68f and rarely a cloud in the sky. Serendip Sanctuary, Victoria

It is free to enter Serendip Sanctuary and as you drive or walk up the road into the parking area there are opportunities to see kangaroos and wallabies as you can see above. Hiding in plain sight just like they are all across Australia. Lara is about 20 kilometres from Geelong or 60 kilometres south-west of Melbourne.

Lake Indoon

There were only a handful of people camping at Lake Indoon on January 25th despite it being a long weekend for Australia Day. In the shade there were several Western Grey Kangaroos that reluctantly moved to another shady spot as we approached and there were Yellow-rumped Thornbills and Splendid Fairywrens. . Heading for the Southern Highlands

We will be spending a good part of our holiday based in Mittagong as it is a central place to visit the Southern Highlands , Kangaroo Valley , the massive Morton National Park and no doubt we will head to the coast one day in search of a Hooded Plover or Double-banded Plover. It has taken us around Western Australia on sealed and unsealed roads and over into the Northern Territory and shown us some amazing birding sights.
