On a New Level of Absurdity in the Slaughter Business

Bea sent me a link to an article in Gourmet called " Humane Slaughterhouses ," by Rebecca Marx, that is absurd. And the absurdity is in the reality that the author and the featured person who kills sentient nonhumans for a living, think they're onto something. It involves not killing them. Potent if symbolic? Not eating them.

Little boys kill thousands of birds each year with slingshots. He is also the Vice-President of the Honduran Ornithological Association.

He has volunteered to kill a deer cruelly, ineptly and with an outdated weapon that causes additional suffering to the deer. He says meat tastes more precious when you’ve watched it die. To the Editor: Re “ PETA’s Latest Tactic: $1 Million for Fake Meat ” (news article, April 21): The commercial development of meat from animal tissue won’t result in “fake meat” any more than cloning sheep results in fake sheep. A more accurate name for the end result would therefore be “clean meat.”
