As a breed, pit bulls have a bad rap. Many shelters do not intake pit bulls at all, and many of the shelters that do find themselves limited in their intake by state regulations or their own policies that dictate pit bull capacity. Evaluate the Pit Bull before Doing Anything.

I rejoined my local animal shelter's volunteer program a few months ago (long story as to why I quit in the first place). One day while I was volunteering I met a little pit bull puppy who was recovering from a spaying. Very sweet and gentle animal (I have a soft spot for pits.and pugs!)

The ASPCA continually does amazing work on behalf of our animal companions. On February 17th they rescued 26 Pit Bulls near Sandersville, Georgia. The dogs had been left to starve, no food, water or even shelter from freezing temperatures. If you see animal abuse, please report it.

I just watched episode 1, season 1, of Dogtown , the National Geographic Channel TV show about Dogtown at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT. I remember posting last summer about an abused pit bull mother who was euthanized by our animal shelter for being food-aggressive. We really enjoyed it.

In case you are not home when disaster strikes, pre-place stickers on your doors to notify emergency workers or neighbors where on your property your animals are located and where to find your emergency pet kit. Most often pets are not allowed in these shelters due to reasons of human health safety. Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman, etc.)

In literature as well as life, the ideal is the safely rescued animal finds the perfect home and becomes the perfect pet. But when an animal is so damaged or developmentally challenged by its beginnings that it doesn’t accept its new situation; that can make for a difficult transition. This is but one rescue story.
