When we left off , the New York Times' Roger Cohen had eaten dog while in China, and wasn't thrilled about it emotionally. He writes: There is a rational, and for some people a spiritual, case for being a vegetarian: Killing animals is wrong. I'm intrigued by his mention of cannibalism, even if to set it aside.

Animals raised for food suffer miserably. The overwhelming passage in November of Proposition 2 in California, which banned tight confinement of many of the animals raised for food, is a fine example of the power of publicity to educate people about the atrocities we commit to those animals who have no voice of their own.

Humans, and most animals, produce cholesterol naturally, but the problem is when we “supplement” this biologically occurring substance. Cholesterol is found only in foods derived from animals, like meat, cheese and eggs. That is when I went vegetarian. My cholesterol levels have always made my doctors happy.

Doesn't have a ring to it at all, but a young man at Whole Foods yesterday called himself an "animal person" while ordering a roast beef wrap and I thought: Note to self-must change blog name if going to resume blogging.

As a longtime vegan with three vegan-from-birth children, I would like to suggest that since vegetarians are generally healthier than meat eaters, there is no excuse for compassionate people to eat animals. For the same reason that most of us would not eat our pets, we should also not eat chickens, pigs or other animals.
