Mark]: This luscious book, Penguins: The Ultimate Guide , by De Roy, Jones, and Cornthwaite, is the second edition of a book first published in 2015. Fifty pages have been updated with new text or photos, but what Donna said, in her review of the first edition , is still apt: the photographs are “amongst the most stunning I’ve ever seen.”

Aleksandar started birdwatching when he was 10, after a face-to-face encounter with an Erect-crested penguin. One reason that I can think of for subjecting myself to such a torturous experience is if I am going birdwatching. What’s more, they host quite a number of endemics, both animal and plant. Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

This is a good place to see the endangered and beautiful Yellowhead and the endemic Yellow-eyed Penguin. Along with the Northern Royal Albatrosses the peninsula also has a good population of Yellow-eyed Penguin, and you don’t have to get on a boat to see either! Yellow-eyed Penguin at Otago Peninsula.
