Unfortunately for the hunters these were already all extinct, and with the introduction of cats, rats, stoats and the like the only upland game bird, the New Zealand Quail , was fast on the way out too. With a boost like that the species was well and truly here to stay. Indeed, 30,000 mallards were released across the entire nation.

I get that you’re really angry, I mean, he was a popular lion and yes, his cute widdle cubs will probably die to, but I can’t help feeling you’ve kind of missed the point a bit, and well, ending all hunting in Africa will not solve much and maybe make things worse and… No, no, I’m not a hunter. To a point.

Now that the species is listed in the US as "threatened," hunters can't import the dead body parts (aka hunting "trophies") in from Canada. Supposedly, environmentalists and animal rights activists have "unfairly made the polar bear into 'the panda bear of North America.'" insert crying baby picture here.)

The next argument is usually something along the lines of: But animals in the wild might starve to death, and get injured, maimed or killed by predators! And before any hunter can blurt out "Have you ever seen a deer die of starvation in the woods? I do not pass judgment on other species, whose motives I cannot comprehend.

In responding to Suzie’s post defending wildlife rehabilitation I began to think again about the areas in which animal rights and animal welfare overlap with the field of conservation, and the ways in which they don’t. And people that work in either conservation or animal welfare tend to like animals.
