Montcalm County has taken a step towards ending its relationship with an animal research facility. The county has a contract with R&R Research in Howard City to euthanize the county's unwanted animals. In return, the company can use some of the unwanted dogs for animal research.

Interesting that many of the grants this place gets specifically say they can't experiment on any domesticated animals (cats and dogs I guess.). Anyway, I couldn't enter the actual rooms where the animals were kept because I would have had to wear a bio-hazard suit. It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter.

Uncovered Reports Show Three Research Labs Fined for Violations

"It is assumed the animal was alive prior to being placed" into the sterilizer, the report said. A dog also had to be euthanized after a gauze square was left in its abdominal cavity during a previous surgery and caused an obstruction. One subsequently had to be euthanized. The report does not identify the procedures.
