Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of June 2020)

10,000 Birds

I hate to obsess about weather, but June temperatures in New York have taken us all on a roller coaster ride with sweltering highs and frigid lows within days of each other. Alas, I didn’t locate any but found enjoyment in a prolonged standoff between mobbing Red-eyed Vireos and a Blue Jay who refused to take the hint.

Where Are You Birding This First Weekend of August 2018?

10,000 Birds

” OK, we don’t really shout “Yee-haw” in New York, but our profane exclamations are not fit for a family-friendly blog. Alas, we’re still mired in shorebird season, so I’l sally forth once more this weekend in search of the Red Knots and Ruddy Turnstones passing through the Great Lakes.

It also brought back memories of a Fork-tailed Flycatcher that I found in Queens, New York in 2000. A few years ago, I would have been unable to do anything until I got home to New York.

Peeps and Beer!

10,000 Birds

Alas, the beer is only available on draft in Texas for a limited time, far out of range for me in New York. But I really would’ve jumped at a chance to try this beer, if only to review a beer infused with the world’s best-known bird-inspired candy. But its release party is tonight, if you’re in the Fort Worth area.

I and the Bird #147: IATB SAT

10,000 Birds

As the owner of what has been called ( by me ) western New York’s leading test prep organization , I have to meticulously analyze every aspect of these crucial college entrance exams. But just as snipe are always cryptic, Gyrfalcons are always cool, even when they’re not ice cold like the ones in Nunavut!
