Did you know that every year, of the 8 million dogs and cats that enter animal shelters, 3 million of these healthy and treatable pets are euthanized? Luckily, The Shelter Pet Project hopes to change this! The campaign has one unified goal, to increase pet adoption. It is such a sad statistic.

Rock & Rawhide , a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to increase adoptions for dogs and cats in shelters by providing toys and other items that serve as a form of distraction therapy, reducing the stress and noise levels. Research has shown that if noise and stress are reduced, adoptions go up!

The dogs were taken to an emergency shelter in Lachute, about 115 kilometres east of Ottawa. If custody goes to the province, Aldworth said, the humane society will put the dogs up for adoption, regardless of whether the owner is charged or not.

He did say in the past that he would adopt a dog. Let's hope he sends a progressive message by giving a shelter dog a new home. LA Unleashed has a good roundup of reaction from the Humane Society and PETA. Maybe he could get two.
