One of those is vet bills, which of course aren't deductible, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't know the total. I'm doing my best in an imperfect world to respect the rights of other sentients, and I have heard vegans say that sanctuaries--and not pet ownership--will be the only way out of subjugation for cats and dogs.

Of course she eats a bunch of batter first, then a couple of pancakes. The younger one gets the loot as soon as that's appropriate, and/or I donate them to the local Foster and Adoptive Parents Association. I may be a vegan and an atheist, but I'm really just a parent doing the best I can to give my child the best life possible.

Of course, that also rendered her defective and she was therefore immediately "discarded." She was adopted immediately, but returned almost as quickly because the people didn't realize how inconvenient diabetes can be. But now, of course, I want more. Violet was just under four-years old. We do what we must.

I don't need to "remind myself" of how bad it is to bolster my commitment to veganism. So I do what I can do, beginning of course with being vegan. I rescue, I adopt, I do TNR, and I connect others to resources to do the same. I choose not to watch videos or bombard myself with images of suffering. I know it's out there.

As for Project Treadstone, there have been three fatalities-by-automobile and one litter of three kittens, two of whom were caught and adopted fairly early. And of course, I will use the meetings as an opportunity for vegan outreach. My poor boy. Wish him luck!

The question of course is, are you really significantly decreasing suffering? Lesson #20 We still don't know what will make a critical mass of people go vegan. But other than multi-pronged, multi-media, persistence, I have no idea what will be necessary to make most people go vegan. And this is why I write about justice instead.)

Of course that also brings up the dilemma of feeding cats and fish, who are omnivores and actually need to eat some meat in order to be healthy.
