The conservation and birding world, including 10,000 Birds, went into mourning back in 2014, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Martha, the last of the Passenger Pigeons. Women gathered their long skirts and hurried for the shelter of stores. A foot deep by some accounts, it killed what life was left in the forest.
