Swainson’s Hawks in Plumas County

The last time I visited Portola was in the summer of 2011 when the Swainson’s Hawks ( Buteo swainsoni ) were nesting there. Each autumn, nearly the entire breeding population of the Swainson’s Hawk migrates from the temperate zone of North America to wintering areas in South America. First Outbreak of Usutu Virus in Germany

The Blackbird die-off that was observed in north-west Baden-Württemberg, neighbouring parts of Rheinland-Pfalz and southern Hessen in 2011 was caused by the Usutu Virus. and species breeding in cavities are less affected. I frequently observed Blackbirds walking on the ground like rodents, even ducking under low tufts of grass.
