They packed up in June of 2013 and headed south from San Diego with the southern tip of South America as their destination. Despite extensive research Lethaby and King (2010) found few records and conclude that this species is rare indeed. Kathi Borgmann and Josh Beck are living the dream of many a North American birder.

With some research, I ended up with more questions than answers, making these birds all the more interesting! Elsewhere in the southern peninsula, the bird winters only sporadically (such as the two birds at Matheson Hammock of January-March 2010) and can only be described as occasional elsewhere in the Florida peninsula.
