In 2009 the island as returned to the local iwi (tribe), but it is still managed by the Department of Conservation. The purpose of the trip wasn’t specifically to look for birds, it was my flatmate’s birthday, and her family had booked two of the houses on the island so that we could enjoy a weekend break away to celebrate.

These Blasts From The Past Where Are You Birding This Last Weekend of November 2009? Hes only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasnt working as a union representative or spending time with his family.
