To say that an update of John MacKinnon’s “A Field Guide to the Birds of China” (2000) has been highly anticipated by birders interested in Chinese birds is almost an understatement. In fact, many of the illustrations seem to have been taken from the 2000 edition without substantial changes.

A few hours of birding on Mauritius Island

Looks a bit like one of the White-Eyes we have here in China, but taken as a black-and-white photo. conservation success, with the free-living population in Mauritius rising from 77 individuals in1994 to more than 300 individuals since 2000. The only non-endangered one is the Mauritius Grey White-Eye.

Phillipps’ Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo: A Book Review

Karen studied graphic design in London and has illustrated a number of books on Asian birds, plants, and wildlife, including the mammoth A Field Guide to the Birds of China (co-authored with John MacKinnon, Oxford Univ. A little bit of Internet digging helped me figure out that some of the plates are recycled from Phillipp’s earlier books.
