Although I love dogs they're too dependent on humans, it's true that stray/feral dogs can form packs and survive in the wild a regular dog like a golden retriever would get eaten by a lion instantly. The main strategy for horses is organisation. In my opinion dogs would be the first to go. Cats would be the next.

What strategies are you using? It really depends on where the strays and vagrants show up in the second half of the year. But even after all that, you’d still be nearly 25 species shy of the record, and the difference has to come from chasing strays and vagrants when and where they show up. Lots of pelagics?

Although they breed on the west coast of Florida, Snowy Plover is a rare stray to this part of the state. A La Sagra’s Flycatcher, a Caribbean stray, continued at Charles Deering Estate. A Snowy Plover, a regional rarity, continued at Crandon Beach, while a Solitary Sandpiper in a lonely puddle at Lucky Hammock was a nice surprise.

In addition to having a communal nesting strategy, anis also spend a significant amount of time allopreening, huddling together, and sunning themselves together on exposed branches. Common Cuckoo is a fascinating bird, an obligate parasitic breeder that employs numerous strategies, including fraud and murder, to survive. But in 2020, with all my travel plans cancelled and pretty much everything shut down, I wasn’t straying too far from Albany, New York for birding. I saw the Cuckoo the second day of its visit.
