Pink-eared Ducks-a favourite duck

For obvious reasons it has listed under “other names” in field guides “Zebra Duck” and it is easily identified from all other duck species in Australia by its distinct stripes. The list was going to suffer due to the rain and the dispersal of so many of the bird species that we saw only three days earlier.

Birding Pulau Ubin-Singapore

There are plenty of lookouts and shelters, but there is no drinking water available at the toilet facilities, so you need to carry plenty of water. Although the tide was in we were still able to observe several species of shorebird on Pulau Sekudu. We had encountered almost sixty bird species and had a very enjoyable day out.

There is an information shelter as you enter the park and then an information centre close to Cockatoo Lagoon a short distance in. At Cockatoo Lagoon you can take a short walk along the edge of the billabong and there are a variety of birds, but not necessarily large numbers of any particular species. Cockatoo Lagoon.

Wolfe Creek Crater birding

We were surprised to observe Zebra Finch , because there did not appear to be any water, but they could have been accessing water on the station and coming to the crater for food. I am uncertain of the exact species of dragon that we commonly found on the rim. Heading around the rim. Dragon on the rim. Grevillea wickhamii flowers.

Marlgu Billabong at the end of the dry season

The header photo shows the remains of Marlgu Billabong on November 10th 2018 looking left from the shelter. Marlgu Billabong looking right from the shelter. We soon positioned ourselves in the shelter to watch the birdlife and there was no denying it was a hot and dry day and the shade was appreciated.
