West Point Cadet’s Mouse Release

As the cadet tells the camera, “I’m relieved … but I’m kinda sad, too, I just got to know him,” a hawk enters, stage left, grabs the mouse, and exits, stage right. “No!” My heart goes out to the cadet (the hawk is probably awfully fond of him right now, too). cries the cadet. “He He didn’t even last five minutes!”.

San Francisco – short of time and money.

My Favorite Release

I raised them, banded them and released them back to their colony site that summer. I held him a minute so he could look around, then I slowly opened my hands and after a few seconds he flew off and went right to a tree trunk and started acting like a wild woodpecker. But I did one Brown Pelican release that was memorable.

Like the other hornbills, it nests in a tree cavity, in which the female seals herself in using droppings and food remains. Of course, their own mother is not the only threat to Wreathed Hornbill individuals.
