PETA filed the lawsuit in the U.S. PETA went on to request that the whales be freed and released to a habitat better suited to their needs. On February 8, a federal judge said ‘no,’ stopping a historic case filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals against SeaWorld for violating the 13th Amendment on slavery.

PETA's latest publicity stunt was to file a lawsuit in federal court alleging that five orcas at SeaWorld in San Diego are slaves for purposes of the 13th Amendment. I'm a longtime proponent of animal rights, but this suit is ridiculous. Nonhuman animals can suffer. Dentists make people suffer.)

An animal rights group has called for a federal investigation into the death of an elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Umoya, a 21-year-old African elephant, died Thursday, possibly due to injuries suffered during an attack by another elephant. PETA and In Defense of Animals oppose keeping elephants in zoos.

If any "drastic measures" are employed, they are to remove animals from suffering, not to impose our dietary choices on others. According to Parker, here are the threats: the ALF, the ELF, SHAC, PeTA and the oddest member of the group, the HSUS. Of course, Lobo is missing the point entirely.

Last night, I watched "Milk," the film about assassinated gay rights activist Harvey Milk. I not only learned about Harvey Milk, but about the early stages of the gay rights movement (which is ongoing today when one looks at all the right-wing flutterings over gay marriage.) Just the sorry animal rights movement.
