Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, Honduras, Part 1

10,000 Birds

Other species I was looking forward to as possibilities included Anhingas , Magnificent Frigatebirds , and seeing as the sun was supposed to shine, some raptors soaring. Not only that, but we had a train ride to look forward to! The train is tiny, open, narrow-gauge, and only two cars long, but a fun ride nonetheless.

Finding an Asian Openbill in Singapore-second ever record!

10,000 Birds

The train system is fast and efficient and was our primary mode of transport. If the train did not go all of the way then we took a connecting bus or walked. We dropped our bags and got changed and hopped back on the train to go to the end of the line at Pasir Ris. I will now skip forward to Thursday, 14th March.

Lovely Cotinga is the flagship species at Pico Bonito, where it is perhaps easier to see than anywhere else within its range. More than 400 species have been recorded at the lodge to date. Central American Pygmy-Owl is another key species at the lodge. However, for me, there were birds to be seen. Photo by James Adams.

24 Hours (or so) in Kuala Lumpur

10,000 Birds

Whether or not species are lifers or not in Asia for me is actually something of a guess, as my note-taking when I visited the region 10 years earlier could charitably be described as sloppy, and while I have some lists I lost a lot of sighting. It wasn’t even like that was the last I saw, either.

Panama Trip Report: April 2017

10,000 Birds

In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. Plus, we never stopped finding new and better species, which suggests that this place could compile a highly respectable site list. This species is a Summit Ponds specialty. Green Heron.
