Last Monkey Recaptured by Primate Center

These are not subject monkeys, but they are part of the breeding colony. The last of nine monkeys that escaped from the Oregon National Primate Research Center in Hillsboro was found at 2 p.m. Nine Japanese macaque monkeys got loose Friday after their keeper left the cage unlocked and they figured out how to open the door.

USDA Issues Warning Letter to Oregon National Primate Research Center

Physicians Committee Accuses University of Washington of Cruelty to Ferrets

I had never heard of the use of ferrets in medical research though. The UW has been cited in the past for deficiencies in animal research, including allowing a monkey to starve in 2009. In 2008, it had to return $20,000 in federal research grant money after a finding that it had allowed unauthorized surgeries on primates.
