It stops those thousands of migrating birds flying across the Gulf of Mexico and directs them right onto the trees, fields, sanctuaries, beaches along the Bolivar Peninsula, where they hopefully find food and fresh water. 9-mile route that takes you down the prairie uplands and salt marshes that make up much of the Bolivar Sanctuary.

Further, did those who reacted so strongly to Harambe’s killing go home and serve meat to their children? This horrible incident has raised some tough questions indeed. Many sanctuaries do not permit breeding. The hysteria of the crowd surely played a part in escalating an already frightening situation.

They reside there at the top of a small mountain sanctuary as mythical as my first remembrances of ancient thunderbirds, living, mating, and raising young. Their hallmark: They don’t kill. My first view of them was at a distance. They scavenge, making them reliant on nature’s whims.

However, the solution they have created, which harkens back to before industrialized agriculture, is simply to still raise animals for their flesh and secretions, and for profit, but to do it the old-fashioned way. It's impersonal and hideously ugly and the animals suffer greatly. No argument here. It's just not right.
