Huge Flock of Sociable Lapwings in Kazakhstan

The largest flock of the critically endangered Sociable Lapwing to be seen in Kazakhstan since 1939 was spotted by researchers from ACBK (the Kazakhstan BirdLife International affiliate) on 16 August. Good news !

The Hidden Qualities of House Sparrows

You see, it clearly resembles a hybrid between the Spanish and the House Sparrow, and an ancient hybrid event was long suspected to be the source of its existence – with recent research indicating that apparently this isn’t the case after all. Winter plumage makes things a bit more difficult, but the difference is rather obvious.
