We started feeding mice, mealworms, and even some wild bird mix and leftovers, as they are scavengers. We released live mice into the flight so they could learn to catch and kill live prey. They did very well, even enticing the resident ravens to fly down for visits. In the evening, they roost in the pines near my house.

As it is critically endangered (there are only about 100 left), I think it can be forgiven for killing the occasional Pale Thrush (which is listed as Least Concern). Unfortunately, Hen Harriers die disproportionally near British Grouse moors – most likely killed illegally by people hunting grouse for sports ( source ).
