Geladas are the sole survivors of a once abundant branch of primates that historically foraged across the grasslands of Africa, the Mediterranean and India. However recent research has shown that they are in fact not baboons, despite superficial appearances, and they are now just called “Gelada”. Photo by Adam Riley.

It caught just one fin whale compared with a target of 50 in the hunt that began in November. Although this park was logged in the past, as a national park it is one of the few forests in Ghana that is really protected. . They are large passerines and research has shown them to be an ancient basal offshoot from the passerine tree (at approximately the same time as rockjumpers, were even placed in the same family until quite recently).

And of course, some Chinese researchers worked on the complete mitochondrial genome of the Greater Coucal. Are these the paper mills one occasionally reads about in relation to Chinese research papers? At Sepilok, it can be hard to avoid taking photos of some non-birds, such as primates. I think they just got what they deserved.
