Uganda is seeing a growth in tourism dollars from visits to see its mountain gorillas. The tourism revenue creates an incentive for Uganda to protect the endangered species at the same time that it contributes to human welfare. Africa has more than its fair share of storks, with 8 of the world’s 19 species gracing the continent. Storks are typically viewed as wetland species and whilst some storks are restricted to aquatic habitats, others are not. This is another wetland species that nests in sometimes huge colonies atop trees bordering rivers and lakes.

Elephant The big – two species of elephant are now recognized as occuring in Africa, the smaller and more secretive Forest Elephant and the larger, more familiar African or Bush Elephant. Prime destinations for seeing African Elephant in the wild include Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda.

There are are presently thought to be five species of kiwi with a possible sixth extinct species, all of which have suffered varying degrees of range contraction since the arrival of humans. Both these tours are for the Little Spotted Kiwi , the smallest species and one now one mainly confined to offshore islands.

There are quite a few raptor species around Skukuza. Most likely, the devil, not god created this species. While some bustards are the largest bird species capable of flight, the Black-bellied Bustard is only mid-sized. Skukuza is the largest camp and the administrative center of Kruger Park. It is also documented on video.

You’ll also remember that the caves are also one of the destinations I took my parents to when we toured Uganda. This means it has different species, and adds to the biological diversity of the park. Bats, it seems, are the reservoir of many zoonoses that cause humans, and other creatures, so many issues.

While Mike and Corey – fitting for being real celebrities in birding cycles – get invited to far-flung places such as Uganda, minor local birders sometimes at least get invited to places nearby. The fourth species apparently breeding on these fields is Grey-headed Lapwing. Not this one.
