I know he's a conservationist, therefore I know he will advocate for "managing" the "resources" that are sentient nonhumans. In the majority of cases, it is humans who are to blame for the plunging numbers of animals, and Corwin is very clear about the extent to which we have destroyed the world around us.

I was especially interested in “To Hide From God,” the chapter on songbird slaughter and protection in Cyprus. The 20-plus list of resources is organized by chapter, so there may be some repeats in the citations I counted, but I doubt there are many.) This is big, global-level stuff with amazing findings but worrisome data.

The fact that geese mate for life, and that the mate of the poor goose that was slaughtered would step forward, was enough to make me swear off meat forever, if I hadn’t already. We pay lip service to more humane treatment of the animals that we eat, but how many of us look beyond the label on the package of chicken cutlets?
