It's a TLC show about humans that adopt monkeys and treat them as their children. There are hundreds of videos on the Internet of proud parents enjoying their monkeys, and an estimated 15,000 monkeys live with humans as pets or surrogate children in the United States. This is seriously weird stuff. Remember Travis? Who suffers?

Each year, millions of cats, dogs, non-human primates and other animals suffer and die in research laboratories. Please do not advertise to sell your pets. Animal research is not necessary to promote human health despite claims from vested interests.

Non-human beings have traditionally thought of on a basically immoral level…they lack any intrinsic values, are incapable of thoughts and emotions, and are only worth how good of a coat they make or how good they taste. But I digress. has gained a solid foothold in the scientific community.

It’s easy to observe this attachment behavior in parrots, especially pets. While we’re used to declarations that our pet parrots “love” us just as we love them, and they can be quite demonstrative in showing their affection, the evidence is thinner for wild birds. Love includes elements of need, but primarily those of affection.
