The concerned person who took the photograph approached a Lukeoil Station in Northvale, New Jersey to inquire about the bird’s well-being, and the owner said dismissively that he could do whatever he liked and had four more birds at home. One’s ability to own an exotic species varies from state to state.

. … The ordinance would allow Minneapolis residents to establish cat “colonies” where abandoned and wild cats can be fed but also vaccinated, neutered and identified in an effort to humanely cut their population and control disease. New Jersey is Undecided. New Jersey has an interesting approach, at the sate level.

We found a total of five species of wood-warbler, no thrushes, one vireo, no tanagers, and Clay’s bike’s front tire found a thorn, though we would not be made aware of that until later. A stop at Hidden Valley netted us several species, including our only Scarlet Tanager of the day as well as a surprise fly-by adult Bald Eagle.

New York City apartments don’t allow feeders to be hung from fire escapes (though I know certain birders that skirt that rule), and it wasn’t until I had already been birding for four-and-a-half years that I obtained a small yard in central New Jersey in which I could place a feeder or two or three.
