The state of Indiana has been soliciting comments for a bill which would make the above scenario legal for 90 days, creating an uproar among those who are licensed to care for injured and orphaned wildlife. A pet cat raising orphaned ducklings! This is always, always a bad idea.

My Favorite Release

We let a one-eyed Bald Eagle go after a year of battling state officials in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky. I raised them, banded them and released them back to their colony site that summer. It was like they said, “You reek of humans, go wash.”. That was 9 years ago.

In 1964, Clancey’s “Birds of Natal and Zululand” raised the total to 590. I live in a city called Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal province.
