This is what happens when people choose their pet birds on visual factors alone without taking vocalizations into account. The local flock of geese (mostly Pink-footed, Swan Goose) is not “countable” while the Egyptian Geese and Ruddy Shelducks that occasionally turn up are. Very stupid thing to do.

The adults of most species will still care for the chicks no matter how much you touch them. The first few years for female ducks and geese are kind of practice rounds. Some rehabbers even have surrogate ducks or geese that they can raise a lone chick with and teach it to survive. Do not worry about touching the baby birds.

I tried to get a better idea of what exactly the definition of cuckoo-dove is but am still not very clear about it – Wikipedia only offers the rather formal definition “any of several species of bird in the genera Macropygia , Reinwardtoena, and Turacoena of the pigeon family.” But I may well be wrong.
