Where I live, there are two species of lemmings, the Brown Lemming ( Lemmus trimucronatus ) and the Collared Lemming ( Dicrostonyx groenlandicus ). And when lemmings have a good year, predators such as Arctic Fox , Ermine and Snowy Owls adjust their breeding to take advantage of the bounty.

Species that back here in New York either don’t occur or only occur in winter and that necessitate a drive far to the north of New York City were common in the backyard in Breckenridge. Two Red Foxes would regularly come up on the deck to see if any scraps were to be had. Mountain Chickadee heading off with a sunflower seed.
