Attorney Julia Dudley said Blevins had bought animals for several years from trappers in different states and brought them to Virginia to sell to the owners of "fox pens." He was caught after a yearlong investigation by Virginia game officials that included the undercover purchases of 54 red foxes and 47 coyotes from Blevins.

There was evidence of feral cats and now we have seen foxes around Broome we know they will also be a threat to our local shorebirds. We quickly investigated once the Brahminy Kite had moved through and discovered two eggs laid on the top of the cliff. Other nests were new scrapes that were to be nests in future days.

It didn’t take long for a robin to come investigating, but it kept its distance and only came down to ground very briefly. The cherry bole log foxed my exposure settings, so I swapped to a Silver Birch.

The Russians began by breeding a group of foxes according to one simple rule: they would walk up to a cage and put a hand on the bars. Foxes that slunk back in fear and snapped their teeth didn’t get to breed. The ordinary ones failed miserably.

Mago National Park certainly deserved more exploration and I wished we had time to investigate the well appointed campsites along the Mago River. As the sky turned rosy with dawn, we stopped for some excellent additions to our burgeoning bird list. However we had a much anticipated cultural highlight awaiting us, the celebrated Mursi people.

Oh, well, one more left to chase another day… It is sunset now, I hear some noisy birds from large Oriental Planes and go to investigate, when a shadow glides above me and lands on a plane branch – a sparrowhawk! And deep inside I feel it was the Audouin’s. But the day isn’t over yet.
