In German, if you are a rodent and you are smaller than – say – a human hand, you’re a mouse. But of course the mammalian meat eaters will be happy too and reproducing like there’s no tomorrow. In Germany, our most common large mammalian predator is the Red Fox Vulpes vulpes. No “gophers” etc.

In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat.

The vast number of meat eaters brake for geese, call the A.S.P.C.A. So why would they not insist that the cow that became their steak was treated humanely?
