New England Reptile Distributers just released a video explaining a terrible incident involving the FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). FWC officers arrived at a reptile facility and forcefully killed 29 reticulated pythons, 5 Burmese pythons, and 1 pregnant Boa constrictor.

The latter is even captured in a somewhat gruesome video , in which the hornbill plucks a caged bird out of its cage and kills and eats it. At 15h59, the female picked up the fourth chick and killed it by repeatedly crushing it with her beak. Then she tried to feed it to the remaining chicks.

Lucky and his instructor were successful in bluffing this particular bear, yet the very next year in the same area, Hoshino was killed by a Brown Bear. Florida scrub jay, Aphelocoma coerulescens.

hours on I-95 (we here in South Florida are known for our very limited public transportation options--boy do I miss NYC). Trying to program kids to accept the killing of someone they love is cruel. Imagine if kids in 4-H were taught how to raise dogs for dogfighting (not a perfect analogy, I know). Those messages aren't aligned.

At least she contributed to science… My Best Bird of the Year was a Snowy Plover , which I first spotted along the Florida Panhandle. Erica also chose a shorebird.
