But one area that continues to provide them is the fight against the use of greyhounds as a source of entertainment (and gambling revenue) by forcing them to race. But for me, the number of adopted dogs doesn't make up for the fact that we have no right to breed dogs to use them as gambling chips. Some get adopted into great homes.

On THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING

And I received confirmation of something I've known since 2004, when we adopted retired racing greyhound, Violet Rays: That there's sort of a critical period for dog-behavior acquisition, and if it's missed, the dog isn't likely to mature into the type of loving being whose behavior we've come to associate with "pet" dogs.

So there was no traffic, no noise, and each day we awoke to the drama of the creatures who lived right outside our door. Now I have the drama of the feral cats and of course the greyhounds. And a dead end.

On a very quiet night during a lull in the drama of the ducks, I was researching the Greyhound racing industry, and seething over its treatment of dogs as well as the support it often gets, through subsidies, to help it survive. And right before my eyes, I discovered that Muscovy ducks eat frogs.
