Next came a stop in Russia. Here’s his third stop: In June of 2013, we arrived in Helsinki, the capital and largest city in Finland, and our third destination on our European getaway. And, as appears to be the case in most cities in Finland, wildlife and nature is only steps away! Of course, birding was on the itinerary!

Horrible Hybrids

Where it had spent the summer is anyone’s guess, but the majority of the Pochard that winter in the UK come from Eastern Europe and Russia, with birds ringed in Latvia being particularly numerous. Was it the same individual? My guess is that it probably was. These two Racklehahns were quite different.
